Slope to Works. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 6 June 1965. Shown here passing under the 4th Street Footbridge is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6308, an AF-27 built by the American Locomotive Company in March of 1965 and rated at 2,700 horsepower. It's heading to the Passenger Station where it will serve as a helper engine for westbound passenger trains heading up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin, where the helper will be uncoupled and returned to the Station for further assigment. 17th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad locomotives in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 10 July 1965. Shown here are the Locomotive Ready Tracks below the 17th Street Bridge; many makes and models are represented. Of the 40 or so locomotives visible, the following are identifiable by number. Starting from the right are PRR engines #7118, #7124, #9662, #6302, and #6308. #7118 and #7124 are EFS-17M's built by EMD in 1957 and rated at 1,750 horsepower each. #9662 is an EF-15A built by EMD in 1950 and rated at 1,500 horsepower. #6302 and #6308 are AF-27's built by the American Locomotive Company in 1965 and rated at 2,700 horsepower each. |

They've just passed under Signal Bridge 2417/6 while serving as tail-end pushers on a TrucTrain rounding the Curve on its way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin, where they'll be uncoupled and returned to East Altoona for further assignment.
