Horseshoe Curve-1966. Here is an original photo that I took at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, in May of 1966. Shown here on Track 2 (F to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #6303, an unidentified GM-EMD locomotive, and #6308. #6303 and #6308 are AF-27's built by the American Locomotive Company in March of 1965 and rated at 2,700 horsepower each. They served as tail-end pushers on a TrucTrain as far as Gallitzin, where they were uncoupled and are now being returned to East Altoona for further assignment. Note the fully-loaded eastbound mineral train on Track 1. (#35 of 39) |
