This photo was taken in the storage yard at the Pennsylvania Railroad's Erecting & Machine Shop. Prominent here is PRR engine #2824, an H-9S (2-8-0) "Consolidated" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during November of 1910 and retired in March of 1953 after 43 years of faithful service. |

Here is the sixth of ten original photos by Douglas C. Jones that were taken in the Juniata section of Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1953. Shown here is a portion of the storage yard at the Pennsylvania Railroad's Erecting & Machine Shop. In the background is Maintenance-of-Way flatcar #495955. Stored on its deck is a new cast-steel trailing truck which, at this point in history, may never be installed. In the foreground are numerous high-grade steel steam locomotive driving wheels which have run their last miles and are soon headed to the Recycling Center. |
