Displayed IC 2500 4-8-2 Mountain Steam Locomotive  Contributor's Pick!
This engine was recently repainted by volunteers and the CN. IC Paducah Shops rebuilt 2-10-2 #2953 into this 4-8-2 using the old boiler and a new Granite City Steel engine bed. The 30" x 30" cylinders and the air reservoirs are cast into the frame. It was dedicated here on 10-5-62, and the shelter was built in 1992. She weighs 635,000 pounds when road ready, and 450,000 when sitting here empty. Thanks to the guys here for showing me around.

Tony Held General Now that picture says "steam engine". Nice photo, glad to see this IC steamer is fit as a fiddle in her display. 11/1/2007 6:39:16 PM
David Mead General Very good restoration job here. It is wonderful to have such heritage preserved. I wonder if it will be able to run again one day? Pleased that it is protected from the elements. In UK we have so many steam locos out in the open which in some cases looks only scrap. 11/2/2007 4:33:45 AM
C.S. Jackson General They got another locomotive of this series put on display. #2542 in McComb, Mississippi. 1/13/2008 9:04:48 PM
