Notice the NYC container operation to the right. They are not containers in today's sense. As you can see they are semi-trailers and can't be stacked. I'm sure the wheels had to be removed to fit under bridges and through tunnels. Note each has a NYC logo which probably means they are captive. They seem to be being unloaded/loaded at the fright house in the background. Anyhow, I bet any railroad would love today to have a contained facility this closes to the Loop and North Michigan Ave. Unfortunately I can't improve the picture quality anymore (cheap film and processing on a teenager's budget) and that the cat tails hang across the RI locos. |
