PRR 8659, AS-18AM, c. 1967
AHC. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1967. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #8659, #8667, and another unit whose road number is not recorded. All were built by the American Locomotive Company. #8659 and #8667 are both AS-18AM's rated at 1,800 horsepower each. #8659 was constructed in January of 1958, while #8667 was built in February of the same year. They're serving as tail-end pushers for a mixed-cargo freight train that's rounding the Curve on its way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin, where they'll be uncoupled and returned to East Altoona for yet another helper/pusher run up "The Mountain." Produced and distributed by FJC Products of Newport, Delaware.
