Amtrak Passenger Trains, #1 of 6, 1992
Amtrak. Here is the first of six successive original photos that I took at the Virginia Railway Express L'Enfant Plaza Passenger Station in Southeast Washington, DC, on 20 June 1992. Shown here is an Amtrak passenger train pulled by engine #348, an F40PH built by GM-EMD in November of 1980 and rated at 3,200 horsepower. This nine-car train has just departed Union Station and has roared through the tunnels under Washington's streets on its way to Richmond and points South.
