| Great shot of the massive DRGW 2-8-8-2 #3501 surrounded by the mountain range it helped tame with its tremendous tractive effort of 107,374 lb. Built by ALCo-Richmond in May of 1923, the Malley compound (sometimes referred as "Chesapeake" type) served the DRGW hauling very long drags of cars or in a helper position in the western mountain ranges. It served through WW II and finally was crapped in September of 1951. Original specs - 57" drivers, impressive 240 psi boiler pressure, 25x39" hihg prooure cylinders, 32x57" low pressure cylinders, engine wt of 534,000 lb, and massive tractive effort of 107,374 lb.
