Preserved Mogul 1727
Southern Pacific 1727 rests in a park in Dunsmuir. The 2-6-0 Mogul was built in 1901 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works, one of 69 M-6 class Moguls the railroad would own. Originally operating in Los Angeles, and later being transferred to northern California and Oregon, the engine would serve for SP for 55 years, finally being retired at the end of steam on the SP in 1957. After retirement, the engine was donated to the railroad town of Dunsmuir, and placed on static display. Of the 355 SP/TNO Moguls, 8 would be preserved, three of which were M-6 classes like 1727. The others are now located in Niles and Lomita, California.
