Mann. Here is the second of four successive duplicate 35mm color slides of photos taken by John M. Prophet III on 16 October 1953. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6723, an M-1A (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during June of 1930 and retired in December of 1955 after 25 years of faithful service. In this context, it's pulling a train of empty hopper cars along the left-to-right flowing Susquehanna River near BANKS Tower and Marysville, Pennsylvania. The train will parallel the Susquehanna and Juniata Rivers on a water-level route all the way to Altoona and the Allegheny Mountains. (Gift from Brad Mann.) |
