UP GP40 664
On Sunday 15 December 1985 the Jefferson Historical Society and the Jefferson Parish Historical Commission hosted a ceremony to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the opening of the HUEY P. LONG BRIDGE. The event was held at the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad’s bridge administration building, which was located at the bridge’s east traffic circle. The Union Pacific participated in this event by parking GP40 664 on the bridge above the gathering. The locomotive had been built in April 1967 as Western Pacific 3515 and was repainted as UP 664 just a few days before this photo was taken. It was retired when its lease expired in April 1993 and was overhauled by Morrison Knudsen as Kansas City Southern 4778 in January 1994.
