On Sunday 17 January 1954 the consist of the Louisville & Nashville’s commuter train No. 9 was parked on the COAST TRAIN TRACK in Ocean Springs, Mississippi awaiting its departure for New Orleans at 6:20 the next morning. When this photo was taken, commuter trains 9 and 12 did not run on Sunday, but this was reduced to five days a week on 26 January 1958. On 2 May 1959 the trains’ eastern terminal was cut back from Ocean Springs to Pass Christian, and they were discontinued on 6 May 1964. FP7 654 had been built in July 1951 and spent much of its life on the Mobile Division. It was one of the last FP7’s on the L&N roster and was retired in September 1974, then traded-in to EMD. |
