Here is an action shot taken by Paul Kuehner of Amtrak TurboTrain #57 near Beacon, NY. Built by UAC (United Aircraft Canada) in 1967 as CN 157, it was sold to Amtrak circa 1973. Specs - gas-turbine powered, 2,000 hp, direct drive through gearbox, prime mover Pratt & Whitney Canada ST6, would convert to 600V DC third rail power in Grand Central Terminal, maximum speed of 170 mph, Paul Kuehner photo

Tom Beckett General These trains ultimately wound up running on the Corridor between Penn Station and Boston. I recall seeing them in the mid 70's when I was in high school. I was in the band, and often would not be coming home from school til late afternoon. They left NY around 1700; I'd see them rolling through Sunnyside from the IRT Flushing train around 1715 or so.
