On the Corridor  Contributor's Pick!
At CR startup, Amtrak got the Corridor, and CR was a tenant. Ultimately, this moved freight off the corridor to a large degree, as Amtrak raised the wheelage rates to a point that was not economical. There was still a fair amount of local traffic, which was served from a variety of yards. This is one of the locals, with a U23B and U30B working south of Newark Penn Station. McCarter Highway is the bridge at left. Note the EL box at right.

Alan Page General Cool scene, Tom! Sad that CR's tenant status ultimately cost not only freight service on the corridor, but the end of all electric freight power in the US. Stanley Crane wouldn't put up with those rates for power. 12/17/2016 7:42:15 PM
Steve Coraggio General Great shot. Sounded like Amtrak was either greedy or just didn't want electrified freight on the NEC. 4/19/2021 3:50:36 PM
