Slope to Works. H ere is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 6 June 1965. Shown here (F to R) are PRR engines #6011 and #6010. Both are EF-25A's built by GM-EMD in March of 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. They're pulling a westbound ore train that's passing under the 12th Street Footbridge. This train will surmount the Allegheny Mountains ~ visible in the distance ~ on its way to the steel mills of Pittsburgh. Note the two coal trains at the left, the westbound freight train on the adjoining track, and a single passenger-helper locomotive a bit further over. Elements of the Footbridge occupy the foreground. (#19 of 44) |
