PRR 6011, EF-25A, 1965
Slope to Works. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 6 June 1965. Shown here (F to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #6011 and #6010. Both are EF-25A's built by GM-EMD in March of 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. They're pulling a westbound ore train that's about to pass under the 12th Street Footbridge on its way up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to the tunnels at Gallitzin and the steel mills of Pittsburgh. (#18 of 44)

Peter Hultgren General I see three crew members in the cab, and I would bet there are at least two more in the caboose at the end of the train. Long gone are the days of a five-man train crew. It looks like the engineer has "kicked back" a little, propping up his right leg. This picture really captures a moment and an era quite well! 7/4/2016 11:01:48 AM
