OK, this is not the Abandon. In this last shot, the train has made its way down into the subway, looping under the Abandon (the black truss bridge in the background). The street viewed here is Lyell Avenue. The old Tent City building and Dewey Avenue are to the left out of sight. The Broad Street intersection is to the right out of sight. The structure in the foreground is what remains of the Lyell Ave. subway station. Barely visible on the other side (look below the front of the red van) is the ramp that permitted trolleys access to the subway from street level. Only the truss bridge remains today. The subway bed has been filled in and (for the most part) shows up as a grassy strip on satellite maps. |
