| Louisville & Nasville locomotives stopped visiting the diesel shop at New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal on a regular basis with the advent of Amtrak on 1 May 1971; but the railroad continued to send power to NOUPT every now and then. These units usually needed traction motor replacements, something which could not be done at the railroad's Gentilly Yard. Here we see FP7 666 sticking out of the NOUPT shop, one year after the beginning of Amtrak. The unit was retired about a year and a half later, in November 1973. (approximate month and day) |
