Thanks everyone I appreciate that you like the shot. The reason no more is cleared away is because this is part of the Murphy Branch line and this cut was dug out by convicts around 1881/1882. If they didn't dig by pick axe they used a mixture of nitroglycerin and cornmeal as a crude explosive mixture. Also SOU and NS never had a reason to dig this out as this branch line sees limited tonnage ratings and full retainers must be set to head down this grade as it approaches 3% in places.
