Here is the first of three successive original photos by Douglas C. Jones that were taken just East of the Coaling Tipple in East Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1957. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #1737, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata as number "1737" during May of 1914, renumbered "3750" in 1956, and retired in February of 1960 after 46 years of faithful service. This is the original K-4S. Note that the main driving rods have been removed in preparation for scrapping. |
