Nyman. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1953. Shown here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9564 and another unit whose road number is not recorded. Both were built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9564 is an EF-15 built in September of 1948 and retired in December of 1963 after just 15 years of revenue service. In this context, they're pulling a mixed-cargo freight train around the Curve and up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. |
