Nice example of an 1906 Alco-Brooks built 4-6-2 Pacific as it sits in the 81st yard in Chicago, IL. This loco was a K-2 class Pacific and was rebuilt by the Monon shops in 1921. CIL 4-6-2 #421 - Chicago, Indianapolis & Louisville (Monon) |
| Description: |
Here is an original photo left in its sepia color of the 1909 Alco-Brooks 4-6-2 Pacific #421. Originally it carried the number CIL 401 but was renumbered in 1911 to CIL #421. Note on the back states that it is heading up train 6. Specs - serial #46235, class K-3, 73" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 22x28" cylinders, engine weight of 205,000 lb, tractive effort of 31,559 lb. The class was later superheated and eventually all three in the class were off the roster by 1947. CIL #421 was retired on 10/4/1041. No photographer listed. |

CIL 4-6-0 #451 - Chicago, Indianapolis & Lousville (Monon) |
| Description: |
Delivered by Alco-Brooks to the Hoosier Monon line in October of 1916, this Pacific was one of only three K-6 class locos. According to the Monon Technical & Historical Society as well as www.SteamLocomotives.com, the loco was retired in 1947, contrary to the date for the photo as listed by the photographer, C.W. Cassidy, as 1948. I will be posting it with an approximate date in 1947. Specifics - 73" drivers, 190 psi boiler pressure, 26x28" cylinders, engine weight of 285,000 lb, tractive effort of 41,875 lb. |
