Southern No. 194 |
Description: |
The locomotives on Southern Railway No. 194, running today as Extra SP 6665 North, were stopped on the Gentilly Boulevard (U.S. 90) underpass as the train prepared to head out of New Orleans. This was the run-through train from Houston to Birmingham via the SP-SOU, and the train was stopped while crews changing on SP caboose 4402 back at Oliver Junction. The motive power was GP35 6665, U25B's 6735 and 6730, and GP35 6659; and this was the last time I photographed SP U25B's as most of them were withdrawn from service by the end of the year. |

SP Transfer Run |
Description: |
A trio of Southern Pacific GP35 units – 6669, 6611 and 6653 – were shoving a transfer run out of the SP/ICG interchange yard at the east end of the Huey P. Long Bridge and onto the New Orleans Public Belt westbound main track. Once the train had backed past East Bridge Tower, which can be seen on the other side of the second and third units, it will reverse direction and head to Espee’s AVONDALE YARD at the other end of the bridge. |
