CN 4-8-4 #6401 |
Description: |
The sleek streamlined cowling on this Canadian National 4-8-4 Confederation type steam locomotive made it look so much more modern than previous 4-8-4 locos. Built by the Montreal Locomotive Works in June of 1936, it reigned as a queen of high speed passenger service until it was retired from revenue service and scrapped in November of 1961, one of the very last 4-8-4's to go. Specs - serial #68716, U-4-a class, 77" drivers, impressive 275 psi boiler pressure, 24x30" cylinders, engine weight of 280,280 lb, tractive effort of 52,457 lb. Shrowded in a streamline case. No exact date was give for the photo. Dick George photo. |
