The 3157 leads an intermodal south past the location of the old Vine Hill tower on the south side of Nashville. This is the old L & N passenger main. The Nashville & Eastern's interchange with CSX is located to the right of the locomotives. The Tennessee Central's Nashville Belt Line used to cross the L & N at a grade here. The western portion of the line between here and Charlotte Ave. was removed in the early 1970's and the right of way used in the construction of Interstate 440. The interlocking tower that controlled the crossing stood until 1998, making it one (if not the last) to survive in the Nashville area. |
