So, you may not know I've been on a mission to photograph the locomotives at the NuCor Bar Mill at Jewett, TX. While you can get a head on shot from highway US 79, broadside shots are next to impossible without access to the property. Today, I was investigating a work train on the BNSF Red River Division / Houston Subdivision, that took me up to Jewett / Newby MP182. As I circled around and came to the front of the NuCor plant, I caught sight of NUCX #609 AND the unnumbered GE SL Series that I had caught working at the plant in past years. They were just sitting at the head of the yard, shut down while a contractor was doing track work. Well, because fortune favors the foolish, I went to the plant security office at the plant entrance. I introduced myself and made my request. And the young woman at the desk asked the older gent behind her if he had any problem with my request. He said, "Why would one want to take pictures of a train?" (If I had a nickel for every time I've been asked that.) I explained it was an unusual unit that I've been trying to photograph for a few years now. He grinned and said, "A few years? Well, not any more. I have no problems with it. Be careful, and don't touch." The young lady added with a smile, "If he don't have an problem with it, I don't have a problem with it." I've asked in the past, with a curt "Sorry, can't allow it" as a response. I've staked out the front through the blazing hot Texas summer to the point a plant supervisor came out to see what I was doing (and to make sure I wasn't taking pictures for a lawsuit or protest action... LOL) And there ya go. Finally. Access with the blessing of security. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Phil! So, with that, I've now been able to get a number for that big monstrous GE: DJRX #65. DJRX is the reporting mark for David J. Joseph Transportation, which NuCor acquired in 2008. But an internet search shows nothing for a DJRX 65! And my builder plate photo? I forgot
