Berwind-White, "Nancy," 0-4-0, 1960 |
Description: |
BWCX. Here is an original photo that was taken at the Berwind-White Railroad Car Shops in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, on 12 April 1960. Shown here is the Vulcan 0-4-0 steam locomotive named "Nancy." The builder's plate indicates "Vulcan Locomotive Works ~ 1918." This locomotive was retired during the Winter of 1963-1964, so it served faithfully for around 46 years! In this photo, "Nancy" is shifting a highway-trailer-carrying flatcar owned by the Transport Leasing Company. The Car Shop Offices are located in the structure in the middle of the photo, while the smoke stack shows the location of the coal-fired Power Plant. Brush Mountain is visible in the distance. |

Once upon a time, this was the middle leg of a fully-functioning "wye" that was connected on two ends to the Pennsylvania Railroad; the third leg (visible here behind "Nancy") led to the Berwind-White Car Shops. |
