Dates:
10/12/1965 - 10/12/1965
Album Info:
Here are 21 original photos that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad trains in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 12 October 1965. The intent is to suggest what it was like, railroad wise, on a typical rainy day in Altoona during October of 1965. These color slides are presented in the order that I took them. For more details on these and other PRR Diesel locomotives, see the Keystone Crossings Database: http://pennsyrr.com/kc/data/diesels

Rainy. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 12 October 1965. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #2347, #2312, #2337, #9787, and #9806-B. All were built by EMD. #2347, #2312, and #2337 are EF-25's built in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. #9787 and #9806-B are EF-15A's built by EMD in 1951 and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. They are pulling a 164-car mixed-cargo freight train under the 17th Street Bridge on their way up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West. The caboose is #477636. Bringing-up the rear are "pushers" #6305 and #6309. This photo taken from the steps of ALTO Tower.
