The lead locomotive was delivered as UP SD40-2 3613 in September 1979, retired then rebuilt by RailPower and returned as a six axle Genset RP20CD. The trailing unit was built for CNW as SD38-2 6651 in January 1975 and after the UP merger assigned to hump service. Although the EMD now wears UP yellow and grey, a scar on the nose remains where the CNW bell was mounted. |

This locomotive was delivered to Southern Pacific as F7B 8291 in February 1953 and worked in passenger service until 1970 when this was reassigned to Maintenance of Way service. The reassignment probably kept this diesel out of the scrapyard and still employed by new owner Union Pacific. |

This locomotive was ordered by Rock Island but delivered to CNW as GP38-2 4602 in November 1979. With the UP merger this EMD was assigned UP 1865 then retired and rebuilt by GATX and returned as UP 367 on a long term lease. After UP removed all leased power from it's roster 367 was patched as GMTX 2302 but remained on property. Although Rock Island did not order dynamic brakes this unit had them added during rebuilding before returning to UP. |
