WE 3068, 7377, 6347
Title:  WE 3068, 7377, 6347
Description:  The Connellsville CSX yard is looking more like the W&LE Rook Yard, with the full ore train K110&27 passing the empty ore train K110-26. The empty has come back from Sparrows Point, Md, and the full one is headed there, eventually. Note that there is a crew in the second engine as well as the first one. I thought that was rather odd.

WE 3102
Title:  WE 3102
Description:  Empty ore train K111-06 going west on Track 43 through the CSX yard in Connellsville. I did not expect it to be sent in on this track and it caught me off guard. It would have been shadowed on the other side of the autroracks so its probably for the best. This is one of the SD40-3 Brewster Shop rebuilds and is a former UP 3102 SD40 built in 1971. The train stopped down at the west end of the yard and the crew left.

The Banning Bridge
Title:  The Banning Bridge
Description:  Rising 160 feet into the sky, this is one of many landmark bridges used by the Wheeling and Lake Erie Railway. Construction on it began in 1930 for the Pittsburgh and West Virginia Railroad which eventually became the Norfolk and Western in 1964. Starting in 1990, the Wheeling and Lake Erie took over the line which might have otherwise been abandoned.

Title:  W&LE Hi-railer

Title:  Wheeling and Lake Erie 32 Crane Truck (2)

Wheeling and Lake Erie 32 Crane Truck (1)
Title:  Wheeling and Lake Erie 32 Crane Truck (1)
Description:  Seen at the northern approach to the Banning Bridge. It was carrying two new rails that are very much needed on this aging single-track line. With more train traffic lately, the W&LE is finally putting money back into the railroad.

WE 3102, 6311, and 6381
Title:  WE 3102, 6311, and 6381
Description:  Another ore train heads east on CSX trackage along Water Street in Connellsville. I wanted an angle more to the left on the river side but an autorack train fouled me yet again. This was taken from the Crawford Avenue Bridge. After going under the bridge, the train stopped briefly to throw the switch to 43 Track. Then it went through the yard and got held at Greene Junction in South Connellsville. Looks like all the railfans in Maryland will have another W&LE treat sent their way.

WE 111 on the Bullskin Branch
Title:  WE 111 on the Bullskin Branch
Description:  A rare look at the Wheeling and Lake Erie lending a hand on the SWP Railroad's Bullskin Branch. This line has only recently started being used again to load coal trains. Right now they are doing one train a week/four a month. Here it is crossing one of many bridges over Mountz Creek and shoving the empty gondolas back to be loaded. This was acquired by the Wheeling and Lake Erie in 1997 and rebuilt to a GP35-3 in May 2010. Built as DRGW 3045 in January 1965. has the name W.J. Holtman on the hood. He was president of the Denver Rio Grande and Western Railroad in the 1980s. Many former executives from the DRGW are now on the W&LE. Also before this was painted last year it still had Rio Grande on the side.

WE 6351 (3)
Title:  WE 6351 (3)
Description:  Empty coke train K301-13 sits at a location called "Pig Pen", facing west and waiting for a new crew. This EMD SD40-2 was built in February 1986 and already has an interesting history. Former NDM 13002, FNM 13002, TFM 1402, and had a role in the "Unstoppable" movie as AWVR 5580 and 7346. Since its role in the movie it has been repainted to this, which is why it looks mostly clean here.
