Description:  I went on to Gravette, hoping there would be enough light to get him at Dallas St, but that was already getting into shadow, so I was able to get him a little closer to downtown, just barely. Time to head home. Id see the 261 near Decatur, but the light was far enough gone by then that there wasnt s good shot.

Here it comes

Description:  I started south to see if I could intercept the 181 as it came up from Westville. I didnt get far. He was passing the detector at MP 238 when I came around the curve. A quick U turn, and I was able to get this tele shot as he came up the tangent.

A gray and a Belle
Title:  A gray and a Belle
Description:  Now that the Belle scheme has been in use for almost 20 years, I always like to see one in the lead, especially since it looks so much nicer than the gray. I should appreciate the gray diesels more, since there are now so few of them. The SD 70MACs got all repainted, and most are now off the roster. About the only group not painted Belle now are some of the KCSM older GEs, one of which is leading the 181 here at Barren Fork Creek.

Nose to nose
Title:  Nose to nose
Description:  I got scooped by the poles in this one, but I had no control over where the actual meet would occur, though the 4821 wasnt moving. Parking is an issue, as there is no paved shoulder here, you have to climb the curb into the grass. Anyway, in one of those "Close but no cigar" shots, as in TRP, the 181 on the right, passes the 262, on the left, and a couple of lineside poles.

Title:  And were off
Description:  The 181 cleared the south end of Watts, and the 262 got underway, seen here getting a roll on as it comes around the corner at MP 237. I figured I could chase him to Westville, seven miles south, then get back for the coal train, which still had to move into the siding at 15 MPH, then get to the south end, and back onto the main at 15 MPH. That proved to be a viable approach, and I was able to get some shots of the 262, which has an attractive power set.

Getting grown over

Description:  Its been almost ten years since ODOT widened US 59 here to four lanes. As part of that project, there was a lot of brush clearing. Now, a bit of it has grown back in, and its beginning to obscure what for a few years was a clear shot of a nice S curve. The 262 rolls through, the power now partly hidden.

Description:  We had gone out to Wal Mart late on Saturday afternoon. When we got up to Lake Frances Rd, I looked over to see a northbound coal train on the crossing, just cresting the hill from Watts. I could not see the power, but when we got up on the US 412 overpass, I could see it had not reached the crossing farther down on Lincoln. Maybe I can beat him. In a marvel of good timing, as we crossed the tracks, to the north was this soutbbound approaching. Oh, goody, I thought-a meet. This is the 262 approaching Lincoln Av crossing. The northbound was still sneaking up on us. That would be the real surprise.

Description:  Sometimes what I expect will be a chase in one direction, turns out to be the opposite. I was coming back from picking up pool chemicals, and heard a horn. I gave chase, beating this empty crude oil train to Gentry. When I got there, I noticed the switch lined for the siding. Looks like a meet is imminent. The oil train, five units up front, has pulled partly into the siding as it waits for what will be a southbound oil train.

I expected it would take the siding, but was surprised to find it was holding the main, and the southbound would take the siding here, a 15 MPH move.
